《約束的場所》書名來自一首詩：an old man awake in his own death

　　村上春樹在《約束的場所》提及這首詩，老人死前的覺悟，也許像曾經加入邪教的人一樣，突然醒覺愈走愈遠，明明往自己追求的方向走去，但總是稍稍走偏一點，最終走到山不是山，太陽不是太陽的地方。
　　我無意翻譯這首詩，刊出原詩和村上春樹的譯本。看罷讓我懂得提醒自己走慢一點，有時要停下腳步張望，看看可有迷路，或走錯方向。

an old man awake in his own death

this is the place that was promised
when i went to sleep,
taken from me when i woke.

this is the place unknown to anyone,
where names of ships and stars
drift out of reach.

the mountains are not mountains anymore;
the sun is not the sun.
one tends to forget how it was.

i see myself, i see

目覚めているときには奪い去られていた場所だ。

ここは誰にも知られていない場所だ。
ここでは、船や星々の名前は、
手の届かぬところへ漂い離れいく。

山々はもう山ではなく、
太陽はもう太陽ではない。
どうなものであったかも、だんだん思い出せなくなっていく。

私は自分を見る、私の額の上に
暗闇の輝きを見る。

それが今は大事なことのように思えるし、
